Hello!

Hello, I’m Sophie! I’m a mum, a wife, and a child of God learning to live a slower, more rooted kind of faith. The Oaken Altar grew out of my love for the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and a longing to bring my faith, home life, and the natural world back into rhythm with each other.

Here, you’ll find reflections on the liturgical year, ideas for simple home practices, and, in the longer term, guides to retreats and sacred places around Britain. It’s a space for curiosity, restoration, and gentle exploration: whether you’re steeped in church life or just drawn to something quieter and more meaningful.

In time, I hope The Oaken Altar will become more than a website: a physical place of rest, refuge, and renewal: somewhere people can gather, breathe, and reconnect with faith in the beauty of creation.

For now, it’s a digital hearth, a place to pause, notice, and begin again.

Stand at the crossroads and look;
ask for the ancient paths,
ask where the good way is, and walk in it,
and you will find rest for your souls.
